A Superb Summer Term!

The Hertswood community have a lot to be proud of in the 2024-25 academic year. We saw an broad array of events and achievements, both curricular and extracurricular, through the busy year. As the Summer Term comes to a close, we are delighted to be able to remind you of some of the activities, trips, and successes we have shared over the last few months.
As always, our thanks go to all of our students, staff and families who have made this year superb. We wish everyone a restful and very enjoyable summer break!

Highlights from the Summer Term have included...

We were delighted to be able to announce Oftsed's grading of Hertswood Academy as 'Good' in all areas, and received recognition from Oliver Dowden MP for the hard work of the entire school community.

Hertswood saw fantastic charity efforts, with Executive Headteacher Peter Gillett's track, 'Summertime Eyes', raising money for Herts Mind Network, and a follow-up release to celebrate the campaign's success. Just yesterday, with an additional £1,500 cheque from Equans, we announced the grand total raised as more than £3,500!

Another charity track, 'Miracles Happen', is now raising money for Noah's Ark (please donate!), and outside of school Peter and PA, Claire, went further with a charity world record!

In Sports, we hosted inspiring visits from legendary athlete, Dwain Chambers, and from Borehamwood Football Club! We celebrated our Year 9 Boys Football team as Double Champions, saw students visiting a London Mavericks Netball game, and held an incredible Sports Day to cap off the term.

Our Creative Studies team shared outstanding work in 3D Design, and some artistic takes on food dishes. Photography students shared some flyby photography, as well as other bold photography projects!

The Art & Photography Exhibition showcased stunning life artwork and much, much more from our Year 11 groups, in addition to the talent of our Photography students, and unmissable pieces from our A Level artists.

Other events from the Academy included a 2nd birthday party for school dog, Ada, a talk from author and historian, Paul Dowswell, and congratulating our Sixth Form Chemists on their success in the Chemistry Olympiad.

Our Sixth Form team celebrated our wonderful Year 13 Leavers, while announcing our new eager Senior Team and Head Students. They also welcomed back some fantastic alumni as part of our Futures Days.

Our Year 7 students put together a video to welcome and reassure Year 6, and as the year came to a close, we recognised the effort of students across the year groups in our Awards Evenings. We then gathered together many of our award winners for group photos to share their success with the wider community.
