Product Design Lamps
Back
Our Year 8 students have been shining in Product Design, where they have recently completed an impressive project creating their own custom lamps. The process began with an in-depth study of iconic design movements, including De Stijl, Pop Art, and the works of William Morris and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, providing a creative foundation for their own creative concepts.
Throughout the project, students developed a sophisticated understanding of manufacturing, exploring batch production and the various applications of polymers. They combined traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, utilising a vacuum former for their lamp bases and CAD/CAM software to produce precision laser-cut components.
The final products were finished to a high standard using acrylic paint pens and a variety of hand and machine tools. Head of DT, Mrs Robertson, has been incredibly impressed by the hard work and technical skill displayed by the year group to create such professional outcomes. Well done to all our designers!
