Eye-Opening Visit

Earlier this term, our Year 8 students engaged in an eye-opening 'Home Truths' session delivered by the wonderful local charity, Herts Young Homeless, in the Hertswood Theatre.

Since 1998, HYH has provided vital support to young people across Hertfordshire, offering services from prevention to crisis support. Delivered by Sarah from HYH, the session focused on understanding the realities of homelessness, learning about sources of help, and grasping the challenges faced by those without a safe home. It was a powerful reminder that over 136,000 young people are facing homelessness in the UK right now.

The visit perfectly complements their work in Literacy classes, where they are currently studying Robert Swindells' award-winning thriller, 'Stone Cold', which offers a harrowing portrayal of life on the streets. We're incredibly proud of how our Year 8 students handled such a serious topic.

Following the session, an impressive 95% of students reported a better understanding of the realities of homelessness, with 94% finding the session helpful. A massive thank you to HYH for bringing such essential awareness to our students!
