District Rounders Win!
BackLast week, Hertswood competed in the annual District Rounders Tournament. After a strong preseason, the team was confident of going far. Our first game was against Yavneh, who we'd beaten a week prior in a friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better start, with Liv scoring a rounder on the first bat, and we went on to a strong win, 6.5 to 2.
Our second game was against Queenswood, who we had lost to in the preseason. The girls were determined to show off their improved skills, and their batting took the fielders by suprise. With five rounders, and getting four of their players out through solid fielding, we finished with a 5 to 3 win. A third successive win after this against Bishops in the semi-finals meant the team had reached the spot in the finals they were so determined to earn!
With Queenswood stepping up their game in their own semi final, we were confronted with them again in the final. Queenswood's new focus showed and they earned six rounders, but Hertswood's strong fielding got four of their batters out, including a superb double-out from Liv. As we came to the end of our own batting, our last batter Lucy needed one rounder to make it a draw, and she smashed the ball into the deep field to earn it!
With the match tied 6 to 6, the winning team was determined by the number of outs. Our fantastic fielding had won us the tournament, with four outs from Hertswood against only two for Queenswood! Congratulations to the team, and our thanks to Yavneh and Monk's Walk for hosting the event.
