Products in Chemistry

After their first session explored neutralisation reactions through the creation of bath bombs, the Year 7 Chemistry Club has continued to look at the chemistry behind useful products with the creation of hand warmers.

The design included sodium acetate, various food colourings, water, and of course something to set off the reaction -- the humble hair snapper (which also came in different colours). Extra strong mini polythene bags were used to hold up to the heat, and were sealed to keep the chemicals inside.

At the end of the session, everyone went home with a hand warmer that heated up when snapped, well in advance of winter!
