We congratulate former student and mathematics tutor at Hertswood, Leo Wass, on his acceptance into the prestigious Imperial College. Leo is pictured above with Headteacher (and his Year 13 maths teacher), Mr Gillett.

"Hertswood gave me an excellent foundation to work from, but I received a huge amount of support from members of staff, whether it be the Maths department helping me hone the craft, or the Sixth Form team helping guide me through the university process. I'm very grateful to Mr Gillett, my teacher in Year 13, who helped me grasp some heavy university content required of me for the additional exam I had to sit.

"On top of this I was lucky enough to gain a tutoring position at the school this past year which has been an enlightening experience. I encountered many new situations and formed new bonds with the students which I found very fulfilling. I would like to thank Mrs Endersby for making the transition to tutor as easy as possible, as well many members of staff who offered me useful advice.

"My course title is 'Applied Mathematics with Mathematical Physics' for a planned three years (and possibly a fourth if I continue to a Masters). I chose to study Mathematics as I want to be able to apply my skills in the subject to better people, whether it be in finance or as a data scientist, with later plans to hopefully go into teaching at the secondary or university level."
