Students studying Psychology leave Hertswood with an enhanced understanding of human behaviour and the research process involved in theory construction. This includes tackling taboo and stigmatised topics such as understanding mental health, whilst also exploring how the brain and neuropsychology is embedded within each explanation of behaviour.  Psychology students become confident independent learners and gain experience in conducting their own psychological investigations.

Key Stage 4

At Hertswood our GCSE Psychology programme contains exciting subject content, helping students explain everyday social phenomena. There is a balance of classic and modern psychological theory and research, an emphasis on ‘doing psychology’, and a focus on mental health.

In addition, students gain a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study which develops an understanding of the ideas and values that characterise the ‘self’ and others. Learners are equipped with a psychological literacy that enables them to apply their knowledge and skills in their everyday lives, including making informed decisions about further study and career choices.

Key Stage 5

At A Level, Psychology offers an engaging and effective way for students to build upon the fundamentals of the subject learnt at GCSE.  Students will focus on the key approaches and methods related to the core areas of Psychology, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of different psychological issues and debates.
