"Students benefit well from a wide range of work experience, work shadowing and visits to employers related to their career aspirations."|
"Students are focused on achieving high grades and gaining places at highly competitive universities or sought-after apprenticeships."
Hertswood Sixth Form offers a wider range of academic and vocational courses than you will find in almost any other school and students are free to choose a mixture of A level and BTEC courses if they have the appropriate grades.
A levels are challenging, academic courses designed to take students on to university study. A level students will need at least:
- 5 GCSEs at grade B or above
- Grade B and C in English and Maths
- Grade B in the subjects they want to study
A level students should select 4 courses to complete to AS level in Year 12 and continue with 3 in Year 13 to gain the full A level. All A level students will also complete the Extended Project, which is worth half an A level, in Year 12.
Level 3 BTEC
BTECs are vocational courses and prepare students for university, apprenticeships or work. BTEC students need:
- 5 C grades at GCSE (or Merit grades at BTEC)
- Grade C in English and Maths
- Grade C in the subjects they want to study
Students following BTEC courses should select 4 courses of which one should be an internship (a weekly work placement related to one subject the student is studying).
